Soggy Slam in Ft Myers

The Ft Myers KayakSlam Tournament was the last leg of the KayakSlam Southwest Division.  It was the last chance for anglers to gain points toward the SW Division Angler of the Year Award.  To make it more of a challenge, Mother Nature through in a wet, stalled cold front right over SW Florida .  Even though the weather was less than desirable, the fishing was hot. Two KayakSlam records fell during the tournament. The largest snook ever entered at 31” by Adam Gross and a 34.5” monster redfish caught, photographed and released by David McCleaf.

David McLeaf’s Redfish

Most Anglers dealt with the rain and caught good fish, 6 slams total were caught.  In the end, the first angler back, had enough fish to take the win! Jason Gray slammed out 75.5” anchored by a 29” snook and a 28” snook to win his first KayakSlam Series Event.

1st place angler Jason Gray

2nd place angler Adam Gross

Adam Gross took a close second with 73.5” followed up by Garrick Huber with 67.5”. This finishes out the southwest division and a hotly contested Angler of the Year Race among two of Florida ’s top kayak anglers- Josh Harvel and David McCleaf.  David edged out Josh in the final event by virtue of his outstanding redfish.  All Southwest division anglers are setting their sights on the KayakSlam Championship on April 26th.
