Englewood
KayakSlam
The
final leg of the West Coast KayakSlam Division was greeted with
forecasts of wind and rain. They
were half right. The
rain held off until Saturday evening but the wind blew 15 to 20
knots all day. The
tournament location at
Indian
Mounds
Park
in
Englewood
provided a great
site as 4 of our anglers paddled up to the weigh in.
This was the last chance for anglers to qualify for the
Inaugural KayakSlam championship to be held April 26th
in Punta Gorda. With
many anglers scared off by the weather forecast, it was a chance
for our diehard anglers to jump up in the standings.
The first angler back was Cameron Schurlknight, who paddled
his way to the weigh in site. A good strategy as Cameron
slammed with several good fish. He was
quickly followed up by Adam Gross, who opted to drive up to
the weigh in, and also slammed with a solid 31 snook!
John
Lee and Paul Magliacane also put together slams to improve their
Points Standing for the Year. After the final angler checked
in, it was another close KayakSlam Event as Adam Gross with a
74 Slam edged out Cameron SchurlKnight and his 72 Slam to
take the win!!! Adam
also recorded the big snook with a 31 linesider. Cameron swept
the other 2 big fish spots with a 27 red and a 22.5 trout.
Cameron also took home his 3rd consecutive DOA Youth
Award.
By virtue of
his outstanding day in
Englewood
, Cameron Schurlknight wins the KayakSlam West Coast Division
Angler of the Year.
